St Gregory’s Foundation provides resources and support to local people who help each other in Russia and the former Soviet Union. This is an exciting and challenging time to be working in the region, as there is still much work to be done to build up charities and aspects of the caring professions which were not allowed to develop under the Communist regime. Despite the very visible wealth of some Russians, too many people in that country still struggle to find their place in society, too many have no access to appropriate medical help or social care, and too many see no alternative to poverty and alcoholism. With your help, we can begin to tackle some of the most pressing problems, whether on a local, regional or national level. To further this process, our partner organisations in St Petersburg and the North West of Russia have come together to form their own local charity, called Let's Help Each Other, to support each other and seek local funding. We also have smaller input into several projects in the Moscow region and the Caucasus.

What we do

  • We support the poorest, particularly children, the elderly, the sick and disabled and those who care for them.
  • We help to build up new caring professions, particularly physiotherapy and preventative social work.
  • We tackle the root causes of poverty and social exclusion, particularly seeking to improve the life chances of the disabled and of children in orphanages.
  • We assist in creating strong communities and an effective charity sector.
  • The services we support are all delivered regardless of the faith, politics or ethnic background of their clients.
  • We encourage volunteering in the UK and Russia, again regardless of faith, politics or ethnic background.
