New E-card service

Icon of the Mother of God

You can now choose between a range of icons and Karelian landscapes as part of our new free e-card service. We hope to expand the range after the new year to provide cards to use through the year. Since this is a new service, if you have any difficulties, please contact Sarah Dennis

SGF supporter offers Russian books, videos and CDs

If you would like any of these items they can be posted to you free of charge within the UK, though a donation for the St Gregory's Foundation would be very welcome. I will feel better that I am not throwing such valuable items away and hope that some people will enjoy them. Click here to see the list, and please send your requests to polina677@googlemail.com.

Buy and sell on E-bay

Now you can use your old junk to benefit St Gregory's Foundation. SGF has registered with E-bay, which means that you can donate the proceeds of anything you sell through the site. When you list your item, simply select the Advanced Sell page. When you have filled in the details of your item you will be asked if you wish to sell for charity. You can then select St Gregory's Foundation and decide what proportion of the proceeds you wish to donate. The same proportion of the E-bay fees will be waived. Don't forget to fill in the gift aid section if you are a tax payer.

Volunteer in the UK

Help with fundraising

Our volunteers have organised sponsored walks, coffee mornings, bring and buy sales, children's events and concerts. They have run marathons, organised collections in schools and churches, introduced us to new donors, and most importantlytold their friends and business contacts about us. We couldn't do without them.

If you would like to help, please do get in touch and we will be glad to offer support. You might also like to visit www.how2fundraise.org, which is full of ideas and advice for volunteer fundraisers.

If you are thinking of running a marathon or doing another type of sponsored event, we recommend that you set up your own fundraising page through Everyclick. This online service may make it easier to collect sponsorship donations, and offers the best value to charities.

In particular we would like to hear from you if you know of any companies or organisations which might be able to help us fund new, large-scale projects.

Experienced translators needed

We need occasional help with translating both from Russian and into Russian.

Travelling to St Petersburg?

We are often given items that we need to transport to Russia. If you live in the London area and are planning a trip to St Petersburg, perhaps you can help. If you have room for a coat or a bag of clothes in your suitcase, do contact us.

Raise money as you search the web

Search the web and raise money for St Gregory's Foundation Make Everyclick your home page and SGF will benefit every time you search.

Volunteer in Russia

There are a variety of projects in St Petersburg and NW Russia which have asked for help from volunteers. These include:

  • Teaching English to charity workers and medical staff
  • Playing with children in an after-school club and helping with homework
  • Visiting elderly people
  • Translating and editing English texts for the Early Intervention Institute
  • Helping with children’s summer camps (in rural areas)

We can provide part-time placements for 3rd year university Russian students for the academic year 2010/2011, as well as summer holiday placements for summer 2011. You must be a Russian speaker, able to use your initiative and be sensitive to the needs of our clients. You will be expected to pay for your own travel, food and accommodation. We will always either meet you or talk over the phone in advance to see whether we have a placement that would suit you. We will also be in contact from England through your stay.

If you are interested in helping at a summer camp, please read this account before getting in touch so you know what is involved.
